Starting February 9, we will no longer support free access to the Twitter API, both v2 and v1.1. A paid basic tier will be available instead 🧵

Twitter API is getting locked behind 150 dollars a month… even though Ive been working on a Yasuda bot for so long… It’s over boys

Here’s a tweet that didn’t get deleted explaining that I was talking about the Twitter API in prior one https://t.co/5tP22z5IDY

Is there a source for this news that includes a date for the Twitter API shut down? Or is it just another Elon plan that evolves, morphs, and possibly even reverses as he bumbles along and discovers the obvious pitfalls to his actions after the fact?

Wait what is twitter api and what happened

To be clear. I do research involving and teach a class about Twitter API usage. Free access tiers get people invested in, excited about, and knowledgeable with a product i.e. creates customers for the product that might otherwise not be created.

hello everyone, this hourly bot is run by cheap bots done quick, since the twitter API going to be paywalled we wont be able to use it anymore. im really hoping that it’ll somehow still work, but we’re planning on scheduling tweets instead after the 9th – 🪐 https://t.co/ESUl5DLQll

Seeing as many of the Twitter API users are business use cases, I can see this actually working if the price is low enough. But I think Twitter Blue subscribers should get free API usage. Of course, it is much harder to take away something free than to charge from day one.

Hopefully you don’t charge for basic Twitter API sign-in?
Seeing as how Google, Facebook, Github, Apple, Microsoft, Line, Okta, Slack, Twitch, Zoom & many more providers offer this for free…
Tell me, why would I pay a dime to offer Twitter Login on a web app now? No thanks 😂

ho fuck does the twitter api thing means tweetdelete is byebye ? that’s kinda my last tweet if that’s the case it’s been real folks

Happy #100DaysOfCode to all, today the retweets will end as the twitter api moves to a paid subscription. Good luck to you all!

Back in 2006 when @Twitter was in Beta, I was a Beta tester & integrated the Twitter API with my site for FREE & now Musk is charging $150+ -depending on ur applications’ requests.
The whole point of Twitter at its inception was the seamless & open API.
Musk is ruining this app.— Jocelyn (@jossytweets) 2023年2月2日

So wait with Twitter API changing to a paid service I have a question. So if I have a link on my twitter feed (AKA I tweeted out a link) does that count for me needing to pay for it?
Or does it only apply to the actual website link in bio?
— Randogirl (@Simpleweebgirl) 2023年2月2日
hhh just realized with the twitter api thing the hourly bots whatever might die but eneefftee and porn bots probs wont :’) well thats fun orz fuck

Additional concerns surrounding the closure of free Twitter API include
– Cessation of the automatic posting of Tweets announcing new issues of the newsletter and devblog posts
– Cessation of the new Tweet announcements in our Discord’s socials feed— milk+ visual (@milkplusvn) 2023年2月2日
On the assumption that this doesn’t get reversed, I fear I may need to issue refunds to my few customers of Tweet Yeet. I can’t imagine any pricing model for the Twitter API that would allow me to keep it running… https://t.co/plVYkO09LD

unfortunately not in this case, hello dev here. a lot of people are currently using the Twitter API. the fact that it was free was wild to me. the more people that use it, the more stress is put on their servers. meaning they have to scale it up and up which costs money
